Residents and policymakers in Virginia can now track the development of entrepreneurship in their state.
The Center for Innovative Technology, a non-profit organization funded in part by Virginia’s government, has launched a web-based dashboard that tracks entrepreneurial activity in the state. It includes information on the number of new businesses launched each year and the number of fast-growing firms, as shown in the chart below. The data used in the dashboard provides a diverse snapshot of local entrepreneurs’ performance and impact, as well as the environment for high-tech businesses.
Virginia’s governor, Bob McDonnell announced the launch of the new program, saying, “This system, which is available to the public, provides a dashboard and strategic path to new opportunities in the innovation economy using key indicators that can assist lawmakers, industry leaders, and other stakeholders determine the best public-private investment priorities and policies. This program is an excellent example of how we can utilize creative solutions to empower the emerging economy and help create the jobs of the future.”
