Edinburgh beat not only London, but also Cambridge, Oxford, Manchester, and Leeds, as it became the surprise winner of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards. The title was awarded by based on four criteria:
- quality of life that attracts smart, entrepreneurial people;
- access to capital and talent;
- start-up ecosystems and entrepreneurial culture, and
- access to mentors and support networks.
