Scaleup companies are defined as firms that have a minimum of 20% average annual employment growth in the previous three years. Only 8% of Colombian firms are scaleups, but they created 45% of net new jobs, according to data from the World Bank Enterprise Surveys. This is particularly significant for Colombia. More than 1.1 million young adults between the ages of 14 and 28 are unemployed in the country, and its workforce is projected to grow by one million people in the next seven years.
